The
ACK Diocese of Eldoret was created
in January 1983 following the sub-division of the former Diocese of
Nakuru and inaugrated on 5th June 1983. On 1st July, 1997 the Diocese of Kitale was
carved off leaving the present Diocese of Eldoret.
It
covers four administrative districts namely: Nandi South, Nandi
North, Keiyo and Uasin Gishu. Eldoret has a population of 598, 295
with 29, 490 Anglicans. 46 Parishes have been established as a
strategy of the church to reach the locals.

History
of the Diocese
The
ACK Diocese of Eldoret was created
in January 1983 following the sub-division of the former Diocese of
Nakuru and inaugrated on 5th June 1983. On 1st July, 1997 the Diocese of Kitale was
carved off leaving the present Diocese of Eldoret.
Eldoret town
which is the diocesan headquarters, is the second largest
town in Rift Valley Province with over 100,000
inhabitants. The Diocese serves the Administrative
Districts of Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Keiyo Districts. The
Anglican population is estimated at over 300,000 members.
It had a total of 17 parishes and two (2) missionary
areas, which rose to 40 parishes and saw the subdivision
of the diocese to create Kitale diocese, for close
administration.
The diocese currently has a total number of 38
parishes, 2 sub-parishes and 3 missionary areas.
The first
bishop was the late Rt. Rev. Alexander Kipsang Muge then
succeeded by the Rt. Rev. Stephen Kewasis in 1991
who later on moved to Kitale diocese after the subdivision
in 1997. The third Bishop now is Rt. Rev. Thomas Kibet
Kogo.
