He was known as an uncompromising campaigner for justice and transparency in public affairs. His died in a road accident in August 1990, after a much-publicized visit to Busia Town which was not in his Diocese and from which he had been warned off by certain politicians precipitated a crisis.
The Rt. Rev. Stephen Kewasis Nyorsok was consecrated and enthroned on 12 January, 1992 as the 2nd Bishop. In 1997, Bishop Kewasis would however, move to head the newly created Diocese of Kitale. The Rt. Rev. Thomas Kibet Kogo became the bishop serving from 1997 to 2010. Upon retirement, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Christopher Rutto was elected and Consecrated as Bishop on the 9th of January 2011 becoming the 4th Bishop. In November 2015, the Diocese was further subdivided to create the Diocese of Kapsabet.
